Objective: To establish Iwasa'i—the Advanced Center for Biotechnology Research and Innovation in the Eastern Amazon—to produce knowledge about the region's biodiversity, biotechnology-based innovation, and the training and retention of human resources in strategic areas for the sustainable social development of the Amazon, combining science and innovation with the conservation of biodiversity, the bioeconomy, and traditional knowledge associated with ancestral peoples. This is important for Amazonian cooperation.

Objective: Expand the network of high-impact research on biodiversity in various taxonomic groups; fill gaps in scientific knowledge (on biodiversity) in the Amazon; expand scientific collections, storing diverse biological materials, from whole specimens to fragments of genetic material and cell lines.
