Promoting integration among Amazonian universities, strengthening scientific production and the exchange of experiences and knowledge, was the main focus of the meeting held on October 16 between representatives of UNAMAZ and the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC).
During the meeting, Ambassador Maria Luiza Silva, representing ABC, expressed interest in learning about the universities associated with UNAMAZ and their areas of study. She highlighted the Agency's history in projects focused on sustainable development and research in phytotherapeutics.
Among the proposals presented by ABC, the participation of UNAMAZ in the Knowledge Observatory stood out. This initiative functions as a space for international cooperation and the sharing of academic experiences. According to the proposal, institutions associated with UNAMAZ could play a relevant role in the Observatory's activities, contributing to the expansion of scientific production in the region.
The Agency also suggested closer ties with the Strategic Agenda for Amazonian Cooperation (AECA), a project aimed at deepening regional integration among Amazonian countries. Joining AECA would allow UNAMAZ to expand its activities in the region's countries and strengthen its presence in discussions on sustainable development.
At the end of the meeting, the president of UNAMAZ, Professor José Seixas Lourenço, invited the Agency to participate virtually in the UNAMAZ booth at COP30. It was also agreed that monthly remote meetings would be held to continue discussions on cooperation.
