The Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) met, on June 3, 2025, in Brasília, the members of its Steering and Advisory Boards to discuss and approve the Strategic Plan 2025-2030 . The meeting was chaired by Pro Tempore President José Seixas Lourenço, who began with a historical account of UNAMAZ's trajectory, from its founding in 1987 to the present day. In his speech, he highlighted the progress made in the institution's reactivation process, which began in 2023 during the IV Summit of Presidents of the States Parties to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty, which resulted in the Declaration of Belém. The document established the resumption of dialogue and cooperation between the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and UNAMAZ, creating a space dedicated to managing scientific and technological knowledge and information about the Amazon. With this milestone, UNAMAZ officially concluded its reactivation process. Next, the Executive Secretary Pro Tempore, Professor Nazaré Imbiriba, presented briefly the main lines of action and strategic objectives that will guide UNAMAZ's actions over the next five years. Next, national representatives from the UNAMAZ Chapters—Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela—presented integrated projects developed through extensive dialogue among universities, experts, and institutions. The outcome of this collaborative process was consolidated into 18 Pan-Amazonian Integrated Projects, which received input and consideration from the Advisory Board during the meeting. After the debates, the Steering and Advisory Boards unanimously approved the projects, which now form part of the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan . "UNAMAZ International, together with the Board of Directors and Advisory Board, will play a fundamental role in the implementation of the projects, both in dialogue with national funding bodies and with international organizations," highlighted Pro Tempore President José Seixas Lourenço. With the approval of the plan, UNAMAZ reinforces its commitment to promoting scientific and academic cooperation in the Pan-Amazon region, strengthening the sustainable development of the region.
