The Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) participated in the second edition of the Bioeconomy Amazon Summit (BAS), held on July 30 and 31, 2025, at the Vasco Vasques Amazonas Convention Center in Manaus, Amazonas, by the Global Compact – Rede Brasil. The event, co-created by the UN Global Compact – Rede Brasil and the venture capital firm KPTL, promoted and expanded the debate on the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Amazon in the global climate change agenda.
In its first edition, in 2024, BAS brought together key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, civil society, the innovation ecosystem, and traditional Amazonian communities. In 2025, the event also brought together these stakeholders and reinforced its commitment to promoting traditional knowledge and Amazonian entrepreneurship, offering a diverse program consisting of plenary sessions, thematic panels, pitch sessions, innovation arenas, and discussion groups on ancestral knowledge.
The Pro Tempore President of UNAMAZ, Professor Doctor José Seixas Lourenço, participated in the panel “Science as a Lever for Bioeconomy Business”, on July 31, presenting UNAMAZ’s initiatives aimed at the sustainable development of the Amazon.
