On the second day of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 30), in Belém (PA), leaders of the BioTec-Amazônia Association, the Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) and the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT) signed, last Tuesday (11/11), a Protocol of Intentions for Technical-Scientific Cooperation.

The initiative focuses on developing studies and actions aimed at environmental preservation in the Amazon, based on qualified information about production processes, collected by Ibict in partnership with the public sector, the private sector and, especially, with universities, research institutes and third sector institutions from the eight countries that make up the Pan-Amazon region.

The document was signed by the Pro Tempore President of UNAMAZ and CEO of BioTec-Amazônia, José Seixas Lourenço, and by the director of IBICT, Tiago Braga. The ceremony was attended by leaders of the institutions and a delegation of educators and researchers from Singapore, who visited the joint stand of BioTec-Amazônia and UNAMAZ in the Green Zone of COP 30, the location of the protocol signing.

Quality information for sustainability

The Director of IBICT, Tiago Braga, accompanied by the acting Director Cecília Leite, highlighted that the partnership will allow for the deepening of research focused on information for the sustainability of the Amazonian biome.

"From now on, we will solidify collaborations, identifying specific areas of action and advancing in these essential research projects," Braga emphasized.

He emphasized that contemporary society is structured by information and that access to data has never been so widespread—which makes it even more important to ensure the quality of information that underpins strategic decisions, public policies, and socioeconomic activities.

"Qualified information is essential to generate new studies and improve products and services aimed at the population," he added.

With 72 years of history, IBICT is a national benchmark in information infrastructure for science and technology. For over two decades, the institution has been working on projects focused on information for sustainability, promoting the strategic use of scientific knowledge for sustainable development.
