Leaders of the Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) took advantage of the institution's stand at the 30th COP 30 in Belém to hold a hybrid meeting with members of the Governing and Advisory Councils in order to advance the planning of actions for 2026. During the event, it was decided, among other topics, that the next UNAMAZ General Assembly will be held in Brasília (DF) in May of next year.

The UNAMAZ Governance is comprised of UNAMAZ International, whose President is Professor José Seixas Lourenço, and whose Executive Secretary is Nazaré Imbiriba. Also active are the National Chapters: Brazil (chaired by the rector of UFOPA, Aldenize Xavier), and Rectors of Universities from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. These Chapters form the Governing Council, and, in parallel, the Advisory Council operates, composed of former Secretaries-General of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and former Executive Directors of the Association.

This Friday's meeting (November 21st) included the participation of UNAMAZ International members, the Governing Council, and the Advisory Council to exchange information and analyze the activities carried out from June until now, with emphasis on UNAMAZ's participation in COP30, the first Climate Conference held in the Amazon.

“In this meeting, we discussed what happened at COP 30, the success of this Pavilion (of UNAMAZ and the BioTec-Amazonia Association), with project presentations, visits and meetings, as well as the agreements and strategic partnerships that were defined and signed, which, in essence, relate to all the work of valuing the knowledge produced by Universities throughout the Amazon region,” according to Ambassador Carlos Lazary, a member of the UNAMAZ Advisory Council for Brazil.
