Representatives from the Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) met on Tuesday afternoon (October 21st) with the Deputy Ambassador of Germany and his team at the German Embassy in Brasília. The meeting aimed to present the UNAMAZ restructuring project and discuss new possibilities for cooperation between the institutions.
The UNAMAZ delegation was composed of the organization's president, Professor José Seixas Lourenço, and Ambassador Carlos Alfredo Lazary. Among the main topics discussed was the renegotiation of the Amazon Fund, an initiative to which Germany is one of the main donors. The proposal presented seeks to broaden access to the fund's resources for Amazonian institutions. The embassy representatives expressed support for the drafting of a formal UNAMAZ request to expand the eligibility criteria for funding.
Another highlight of the meeting was the recognition of the importance of education and science as pillars for the sustainable development of the region. In this context, the work of the German Center for Science and Innovation in São Paulo (DWIH-SP), responsible for promoting the exchange of knowledge between Brazil and Germany, was presented. Based on this dialogue, UNAMAZ will be able to strengthen its partnership with the embassy, coordinating actions with institutions linked to DWIH-SP and expanding the boundaries of academic cooperation in the Amazon.
