The Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) actively participated in the International Forum on the Amazon Bioeconomy (FIBAM 2025), held on May 27 and 28 at the Maria Sylvia Nunes Theater in Estação das Docas, Belém, Pará. The event was groundbreaking as it was the first professional meeting focused exclusively on discussing and seeking solutions related to the Amazon bioeconomy and its social, environmental, and technological impacts, both in Brazil and internationally.
The forum brought together research centers, Amazonian universities, experts, and representatives of the private sector, who presented viable proposals and innovations to promote the region's sustainable development.
During the event, UNAMAZ promoted and participated in discussions on the strategic agenda of Pan-Amazonian institutions, highlighting the importance of integration among the countries that share the Amazon rainforest. Representatives from universities, academic leaders, and diplomats with international experience advocated for transnational cooperation as an essential tool for addressing common challenges, such as climate change, sustainable development, and the promotion of Amazonian science.
The program included lectures, business roundtables, and thematic segments that covered topics ranging from innovation and sustainability to public policies focused on regional development. One of the highlights was the segment on innovation in Amazonian biodiversity production chains, which showcased entrepreneurial experiences based on the sustainable use of natural resources.
The forum reinforced the role of the Amazonian bioeconomy as a driver for income generation, biodiversity conservation, the appreciation of traditional knowledge, and technological advancements, consolidating the Amazon as the largest bioeconomic hub on the planet.
