The agreement will be signed at the institutions' stand and includes provisions for studies on urban sustainability in the Amazon.
New studies and research projects focused on the sustainable development of Amazonian cities will be made possible through a protocol of intentions to be signed this Tuesday (11), at COP30, between BioTec-Amazônia, the Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) and the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology (IBICT), a research unit linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI).
The agreement focuses on systematizing information and sharing data to support public policies and joint actions aimed at sustainability.
“This partnership with IBICT dates back to the 1980s, when I directed the Goeldi Museum and we already received great support from the Institute. Now, we are reinforcing this cooperation with a nationally and internationally renowned institution,” highlighted José Seixas Lourenço, Pro Tempore President of UNAMAZ and CEO of BioTec-Amazônia.
The studies will involve development and environmental preservation actions in urban centers, within the context of the World Cities Forum, and within the context of the Amazonian countries with which IBCT has partnerships.
“One of the great challenges for cities is the issue of information. For concepts related to Amazonian preservation to be applied effectively, it is necessary that data be organized and available, allowing for evidence-based decisions,” explained Thiago Braga, director of IBICT, accompanied by the Institute's General Coordinator of Technological Information, Cecília Leite.
