UNAMAZ is invited by the Acre government to participate in the Annual Meeting of the GCF Task Force

The Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) participated in the 15th Annual Meeting of the GCF Task Force, themed "Building the New Forest Economy: Connecting Governments, Peoples, and Opportunities," held from May 21 to 23, 2025, in Acre. UNAMAZ's pro tempore president, Professor José Seixas Lourenço, attended the event at the invitation of Acre Governor Gladson Cameli.
The meeting aimed to unite efforts to strengthen sustainable bioeconomies capable of generating economic opportunities for the Amazonian population, while promoting the conservation of natural ecosystems and addressing regional challenges. Investment-ready projects with expansion potential were also discussed, aiming to develop a resilient and sustainable bioeconomy.
During his participation on May 22nd, José Seixas Lourenço presented the perspectives and strategies for regional integration. He highlighted UNAMAZ's role as a catalyst for actions aimed at strengthening Amazonian universities and scientific institutions, offering innovative solutions to the problems impacting the Amazon's development.
The meeting was attended by 20 governors and lieutenant governors, as well as representatives from 11 countries. The event also featured active participation from Indigenous leaders from the GCF Task Force network, as well as exchanges with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, including lectures, field visits, plenary discussions, and technical working sessions.
At the closing ceremony, the Acre Charter was presented, which advocates the creation of a Global Network of Partnerships in Bioeconomy, focusing on promoting innovative public-private partnerships throughout the Amazon and strengthening preparatory actions for COP30.
