After the approval of the UNAMAZ Strategic Plan 2025-2030 , on June 4, 2025, the Amazon Regional Observatory (ORA) meeting took place, promoted by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), in Brasília. The Coordinator of Science, Technology and Education of the OTCA, Angel Viloria, responsible for opening the meeting, highlighted, in brief words, the objective of the meeting and the importance of the convergence between UNAMAZ and the OTCA to strengthen Amazonian cooperation. ACTO Secretary-General Martin von Hildebrand presented the main challenges facing the Amazon in the face of global warming and emphasized the crucial role of the region's countries. He also expressed his satisfaction and interest in learning about the progress made in the UNAMAZ reactivation process. UNAMAZ President, Professor José Seixas Lourenço, presented the results of the Association's reactivation process, conducted with the support of the governments of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty (ACT) member countries. He recalled that this commitment was reaffirmed in the Belém Declaration, approved at the 4th Meeting of Presidents of the ACT States Parties in August 2023, and in Resolution 26/XIV/MRE, approved at the 14th Meeting of ACT Foreign Ministers in November 2023 in Brasília. UNAMAZ Executive Secretary, Professor Nazaré Imbiriba Mitschein, presented the most important stages of the reactivation process, highlighting the efforts to rebuild the National Chapters and their presidencies. She explained that the Chapters are formed by universities, research institutes, and third-sector institutions located in the Amazon. She also detailed the Association's governance, which is exercised by the Board of Directors—composed of the Pro Tempore President of UNAMAZ International and the Pro Tempore Presidents of the National Chapters—and the Advisory Board, currently comprised of former Secretaries-General of the OTCA and renowned figures with experience in the Amazon. The 2025–2030 Strategic Plan was presented by the presidents of the National Chapters in a session coordinated by President Seixas Lourenço. Each Chapter highlighted an emblematic project, chosen for its relevance and Pan-Amazonian interest. The Plan encompasses 18 projects, developed through extensive dialogue between the UNAMAZ international team and each National Chapter. The members of the Advisory Board unanimously expressed their satisfaction in contributing to the process of reactivating UNAMAZ, reaffirming the Association's essential mission: to promote the sustainable development of the Amazon through academic cooperation in the production and management of scientific and technological knowledge, complemented by the ancestral knowledge of the biome's inhabitants. Ambassador Carlos Alberto Velástegui, representing his peers on the Coordination Commission of the Amazon Cooperation Council (CCOOR), reiterated the governments' determination to support the UNAMAZ reactivation process.
