The Amazônia+ Program extends the deadline for applications to support scientific projects on the Amazon until October 31.

The Amazônia+ Program, supported by the European Union, has extended the deadline for proposal submissions to October 31, 2025, encompassing research, studies, and scientific initiatives that promote the conservation of the Amazon. The initiative is part of the project "Living Amazon: Regional Coordination for the Conservation and Protection of its Landscapes and Ecosystems," carried out by COOPI – Cooperazione Internazionale, in partnership with the University of San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) and the National Open and Distance University (UNAD) of Colombia.

Objectives and target audience
The program aims to strengthen local and regional capacities to address the main environmental challenges of the Amazon. It aims to encourage innovative and sustainable projects that offer concrete solutions to deforestation, forest degradation, and fire control.
Public and private universities, research centers, and community entities in the Amazon countries—Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru—can submit proposals, as well as higher education institutions and research centers from European Union countries interested in international scientific cooperation.
Support modalities and deadlines
The selection includes two types of support:
• Lot 1: five research projects — up to €8,350 each;
• Lot 2: eight experimental or scientific study projects — up to €7,000 each.
The projects must have a maximum duration of eight months, with execution planned for the period from December 2025 to July 2026.
Summary schedule
• Release of the announcement: September 15, 2025
• Deadline for submitting questions: until September 22, 2025 (6 PM, Colombia time)
• Answers to the questions: September 26, 2025
• Submission of proposals: until October 31, 2025 (6 PM, Colombia time)
• Publication of results: November 22, 2025
• Execution of approved projects: December 2025 to July 2026
Priority themes and regions covered
The proposals must address at least one of the following topics:
• Sustainable forest management
• Integrated Fire Management (IFM)
• Forest planning and management
• Management of protected areas
• Actions to prevent deforestation and forest degradation
The eligible regions include:
• Bolivia: Beni, La Paz, Pando, Santa Cruz
• Colombia: Amazonas, Caquetá, Guaviare, Guainía, Vaupés, Putumayo
• Ecuador: Morona Santiago, Zamora-Chinchipe, Orellana, Pastaza, Sucumbíos
• Peru: Amazonas, Loreto, Ucayali, Madre de Dios

Context and relevance
The relaunch of the call aims to expand the participation of institutions and update themes without altering the central objectives of the announcement. The initiative reinforces the commitment of the European Union and its partner agencies — AICS, FIAP, and Expertise France (EF) — to promote international scientific cooperation and support the preservation of the Amazon, an environmental and cultural heritage of global importance.
