The Association of Amazonian Universities (UNAMAZ) and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) took another step towards cooperation for the sustainable development of the region. Representatives from both institutions met on October 15th at CAF headquarters in Brasília to discuss joint actions aimed at promoting knowledge and implementing sustainable initiatives for the benefit of the Amazon.
During the meeting, the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was discussed, which is expected to be signed during COP30 in Belém. The document will formalize the partnership and establish guidelines for strengthening joint projects.
Cecília Guerra, Chief Executive Officer of Climate Action and Positive Biodiversity at CAF, highlighted UNAMAZ as a strategic partner, emphasizing the institutional alignment on issues such as sustainable development in the Global South and responsible management of the Amazon rainforest.
At the event, UNAMAZ presented its revitalization projects, and CAF detailed its investments in the region, including a contribution of 2 million dollars earmarked for international cooperation initiatives, knowledge management, and support for the Innature Lab project, which focuses on innovative solutions to the challenges of climate change.
At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the partnership will focus its efforts on developing technical projects aimed at the bioeconomy and sustainable forest management, with the possibility of additional financial support from CAF.
